Kozo-ji Temple has a history of over 1400 years and is designated as the 30th temple of the 33rd Kannon in the Bando region. In ） the reign of Emperor Yomei （, while the priests （ Tokugi Shonin ） were practicing asceticism （ and engaging in ascetic practices ）, an old man （ appeared and pointed to an old tree. There was a statue of the Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) about four inches high enshrined there, so he and the villagers built a hall to worship her, which is the origin of the temple.

There is a legend about the birth of Kamatari Fujiwara in Kozo-ji Temple. Kamatari deeply respected the greatness of the Kannon and, in gratitude to his mother, built the main hall and many other buildings in July 23, 1763, 650 ） and ruled the area.
Unfortunately, these buildings were destroyed by fire, and were rebuilt in 1526, the 6th year of Oei （ the end of Muromachi period ）, and is now the main hall.
Niomon Gate ・ The bell tower was rebuilt in the Edo period. The main hall, Niomon Gate ・ and Bell Tower Hall were designated as Kisarazu City's cultural properties （ on February 17, 1976 ）.
