The "Chiba Prefecture Ordinance on the Promotion of Safe and Secure Community Development" enacted by Chiba Prefecture in 2004 designates the period from October 11 to 20 as "Safe and Secure Community Development Month" in order to deepen the interest and understanding of the citizens of the prefecture in creating a safe and secure community. In line with this, the Chiba Prefectural Police have designated October as "Telephone Fraud Prevention Month" to raise crime prevention awareness.

The following are effective measures against telephone fraud.

●Turn on the "answering machine function" and "notification recording function" even when you are at home.
●Don't immediately trust a family member （ by phone, even if they use their real name ） ・ a police officer ・ a bank official ・ a city official, etc., and do not answer with personal information or whether they are at home.
●There have been a number of scams in which people have tried to take your cash card. Do not give your card to anyone else or give them your PIN.
●Do not keep cash at home if at all possible.
●In addition to those targeting cash, there are also scams in which people are asked to purchase electronic money at convenience stores.
●Keep in touch with your family and communicate closely with them on a regular basis.
●You cannot get a refund at an ATM.
●The aim of criminals is to make you impatient and prevent you from making a calm decision by telling you that you have a deadline. Please hang up the phone once so that you can make a calm decision, and if you feel suspicious, consult your family or the police.
