1 Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Alert

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is an infectious disease caused by a virus and occurs in summer, mainly in infants. 2 What is Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
・ Three to five days after infection, a blistering rash of 2 to 3 mm in size appears on the mouth, palms, soles and dorsum of the feet.
・ There is no effective vaccine and no drug that can prevent the onset of the disease, but it almost always resolves spontaneously.
・ Monitor the progress of infected children carefully, and consult a medical institution as soon as possible if symptoms are severe, such as high fever, fever lasting more than 2 days, vomiting, headache, difficulty looking at others, refusal to answer calls, rapid breathing, inability to drink fluids and pee, or lethargy. 3 Herpangina Alert
Funabashi City issued a herpangina alert on July 5, because the number of cases exceeded the alert threshold of "6" with 6.09 （ people ） in the 26th week （ June 24 to June 30 ）. In the 27th week （ July 1 to July 7 ）, the number of cases further increased to 6.18, and our city has the highest number of cases in the prefecture.

What is herpangina
Herpangina is characterized by fever over 38℃ and blisters on the mouth and throat. It is one of the most common summer colds, especially among infants and young children.
The main routes of infection are droplet infection and contact infection.

5 Prevention
・ Wash your hands frequently with running water and soap, as alcohol disinfection is not effective.
・ Dispose of excreta properly.
・ Practice good cough etiquette.
・ Avoid close contact with infected persons and avoid sharing towels and bedding.
・ Disinfect frequently touched areas and utensils.
