I know someone who did a homestay.

I heard that studying abroad is different for each student, such as living in a school dormitory, renting a room, or sharing a room, but in the case of homestay, it is good to live in a nice house and learn about foreign culture. You can go to holiday church together, learn home cooking, and meet the children of the homestay family. On the other hand, there seem to be some disastrous cases with homestay.
When you go there, you are almost left alone, or the house is not equipped with enough furniture, or it is not what was promised. Or a house with hygiene problems.

Also, although it is not a tragic case, the homestay family is not necessarily American （ or even from that country ） but there are Korean families, Filipino families, and many other cases.
