Chiba City ： Beware of Fictitious Billing Scams

Chiba Chuo Police Station informs.

We are aware of a "fictitious charge fraud" e-mail today. This technique is to send a message to your PC or smartphone saying, "There is an unpaid fee for a pay site. If you don't pay it today, you will be taken to court." or "Your computer is infected with a virus, and it will cost you money to get rid of it," and then they make you call back the phone number in the e-mail or link to an attached URL.
They then ask you to purchase an e-money card at a convenience store or other store and give them the number on the card.
Compared to other methods, the initial amount demanded by this method is small (several tens of thousands of yen), but once the victim complies with the demand, more money is demanded, and in many cases, the final damage is several million or tens of millions of yen.
If you receive a request for electronic money by "e-mail" under the name of "unpaid charges" or "virus infection," it is a scam and you should never accept it.
