Kodo, Taiko Performing Arts Ensemble

Based on the island of Sado, Kodo is a group that seeks to discover the infinite possibilities of traditional musical arts centered on taiko and re-create them for the modern age.
The group made its debut at the Berlin Art Festival in 1981. Since then, they have given over 6,500 performances in 52 countries and regions.
Their performance activities （ One ・ Earth ・ Tour ）, based on the theme of "One Earth" where diverse cultures and ways of life resonate together,
has been expanding its circle of empathy throughout the world. In addition to theater performances, Kodo has performed in "exchange school performances" with elementary and junior high school students,
collaborated with artists of different genres such as world music, classical, jazz, rock, dance, and performance, and
participated in many major international arts festivals and film music around the world. Kodo's creative activities, philosophy and lifestyle on Sado Island have
attracted the attention and influence of artists and arts professionals around the world.

Kodo One ・ Earth ・ Tour 2022 - "Children （ Warabe ）" About the piece

Kodo's 40th Anniversary Tour "Children" is a continuation of our previous work "Kodo"
The theme of the piece is our home, "Sado".
The Corona disaster has changed the lives of many people.
We have not been able to deliver
the sound of taiko drums to all parts of Japan and the world
for a considerable period of time, and the operation of the group has been very difficult.
In the midst of this, we spent a lot of time on Sado Island, and
we were reminded of Kodo's founding philosophy
"Live, Learn, Create" as the basis for our stage productions.
In this land of rich nature and unique culture, where a wide variety of performing arts are close at hand,
the performers have been training hard for this production and have created a rich individuality,
producing new pieces one after another.
The sound of life （ Rhythm ）, the vibrancy of the soul.
We will create a space with our guests
and present it to you today with our best sound, as a token of our gratitude to you.
We hope you enjoy this stage that will be the foundation of Kodo's future.
