About 130 varieties of gorgeous classic chrysanthemums in one place ！.

Chrysanthemums are one of Japan's most popular horticultural plants. Although not native to Japan, it is believed to have been brought from China along with other cultural relics by the Ritsuryo period at the latest, as chrysanthemum banquets were already popular at court in the Heian period. Heian ・ From the Kamakura period, Japan's unique aesthetic sense led the ruling classes to create a unique flower. The "Saga chrysanthemum", with its brush-tip petals, was forbidden to the public at Daikakuji Temple in Kyoto, while the "Ise chrysanthemum", with its drooping petals, was actively cultivated in the Matsusaka region of Ise ・. The chrysanthemum was used in banquets, arts and crafts, and as a symbol of immortality among the ruling class.
It is said that from the middle of the early modern period onward, chrysanthemums became popular, and varied horticultural species of chrysanthemum beds and chrysanthemum craft shows became fashionable. The two types of chrysanthemums that supported these fads were the Higo chrysanthemum, with its sparse petals, and the Edo chrysanthemum, with its petals changing after it began to bloom. These, plus the "Choujigiku" which blooms with a raised center, are the traditional mid-flowering varieties and are called "Kikkyo Chrysanthemums".
The Kurashi-no-Botanical Garden has been collecting ・ such "classic chrysanthemums" since 2000. This year's exhibition will feature approximately 110 varieties of classic chrysanthemums with unique characteristics from various regions, and approximately 20 new original varieties such as Saga and Higo chrysanthemums, which were cultivated at Rekihaku. This year, under the theme of "Transition of Kikuzaiku Banzuke," the panel exhibition will introduce the historical transition of the popular chrysanthemum work in the late Edo period, and will also look at the Kikuzaiku Banzuke from the perspective of publishing culture.
